3D Model

• A simple method is needed to secure an aluminum extruded track to the ceiling.
• The component needs to “lock” in place after being rotated 90 degrees and to stay locked.
• In order to minimize forces needed to lock the component, the geometry needs to be precise.
• The component needs to be low cost.

• Zinc die casting process was utilized.
• The narrow section of the body inserts into the track and rotating the part locks the track in place.
• The component geometry includes “bumps” to interfere slightly with the walls of the aluminum extruded track.
• The “Force to Lock” was measured and this information used for structural analysis to determine arm thickness.
• Creo Simulate Lite was used for structural analysis.
